Qing Ming (Ching Ming) Festival, also called as Tomb Sweeping Day is a very important event in China to remember the ancestors. It reminds me of the Ullambana (Hungry ghost) Festival which falls on the seventh month of the Lunar New Year.
On the day of Ching Ming, people visit cemeteries to clean the areas of the graves, pull out weeds and place fresh flowers. They visit Buddhist temples and Columbarium to make offerings to the deceised, family members burn incenses and replicas of goods like clothes, spirit money( joss paper) which is believed to be needed for the past relatives. They offer them their favorite dishes as well.
Many overseas Chinese visit home to the Mainland for this occasion, where this day is public holiday. I visited to the "Bright Hill Temple" (Kong Meng San Phor Kark See Monastery) in Singapore, a beautiful place with a wonderful garden.
