Panguni Uthiram, for those who missed Thaipusam

The moment, when you browse your Facebook feeds and suddenly see a press release on the Singapore Police Force page (yeep, am following them lol) about a road closure which is eventually informs you about a Hindu festival, that is priceless! Just the other day I complained how bad it was that Thaipusam happened only once a year, and coincidentally, few days later I come across the news about an another significant Hindu festival called Panguni Uthiram, which is totally the same as Thaipusam (regarding the customs devotees follow)!

I have to add one more note here to complete my earlier post of Thaipusam for those who visit Singapore next year, that they got two chance to witness this awesome festival, 23 January Thaipusam, and 23 March 2016 Panguni Uthiram.

Both festivals are very important for the Tamil Hindus, but the significance of Panguni Uthiram is, to commemorate of the Divine marriages of Parvati and  Lord Shiva, Murugan and Devanai, Rama and Sita. Also, this day called as Mahalakshmi Jayanthi. "Prayer to the Divine Couples at this time is important for bringing good vibrations into relationships."  The same day marks the Birthday of Lord Ayyappan as well.

This day intended to underline the importance of married life, the householder carries kavadi to fulfil his vows, and women and children ( this time I saw quite young ones carrying kavadi) can be also seen with paal kudam and paal kavadi.

Event venue:

Yishun Industrial Park A, Canberra Lane and Canberra Drive Singapore,
