Haw par villa, also known as Tiger Balm Gardens is a hidden gem in Singapore. I'm not sure how popular it is among tourists to Singapore, but I would recommend it for those who want to see something funny and interesting in one. I guarantee, this place will educate and thrill you at once! Most of the statues and dioramas are depicting scenes of the Chinese mythology and aiming to introduce the Chinese history and Confucianism to the public, in a weird way tho..
The place got its name of the Haw brothers (Aw Boon Haw and Aw Boon Par) who moved their business to Singapore from Myanmar in 1926. Their aim was to share the meaning of Chinese mythology while decorating the grounds by the three-dimension, life like sculptures. Initially they imposed a high entry fee, but it discouraged people to come frequently, so from 2001 anyone can visit there from 9am to 7pm every day for free!
Your hosts during your visit :
Don't let the tigers scare you away, just dance inside!!
Then take some martial art lessons from the greatests!
Now you are completely trained for the experience!
Meet Guanyin and Shakyamuni Buddha first:
Say Hi to the God of Happiness, Wealth and Longevity( Fu, Lu, Shou):
Don't forget to strike the bell and wish for longevity and prosperity!
"Never impose on others what you would not choose for yourself!"
