Singapore Islands: Pulau Ubin

Let's go back to the 1960's, the world of kampongs. Not so far from the skyscrapers, there is  a small island with one of the last remained signs of the rural life of the old Singapore. Pulau Ubin the granite island is a very popular weekend destination, as it is an awesome place for cycling, fishing, trekking and camping too.

Just jump on a Bumboat which takes you there!

Bumboat, looks pretty.. :)

Starting point: Changi Point Ferry Terminal

The boats are going quite frequently and operating 0-24. It costs 2.50$ one way per head, and must be payed to the captain on the board before he starts. You may get some Malaysian ringgit back as a change ( accidentally of course lol) if you are not watching!

Let's the journey begin!
The sight of the island is already visible!

Welcome to Pulau Ubin!

You can discover the island either on foot or by bicycle, but at Chek Jawa you have to leave your vehicle behind, and it's advised to lock them first..
There is an information kiosk close to the entrance to plan your route but you can find more info and map, also updates on guided tours on the National Parks Board's website

Bicycle rental
It is important to choose bicycle wisely, not all are suitable for the forested area ("mountain bike trail" ).
Get ready for some animal encounter: cute and friendly boars can cross your way but snarling monkeys too :)

I came to know that about 11 temples and shrines exist on the island!
Tua Peh Kong temple is the venue for Chinese opera performances during the Hungry Ghost festival.

The following area below is my favorite part of the island. We spotted a beautiful Hornbill family here, keep your zoom lens camera handy for that case!! :)

Blue sky and palm trees=paradise to me :)
My t-shirt is also matching with the background lol!

Colorful flags lead to a hidden spot of the island: Wei Tuo Fa Gong (Lotus Pond) temple

Fo Shan Ting Da Bo Gong temple:

Nice painting on the temple's wall

Just a closing note: don't forget the
mosquito repellent before heading to Pulau Ubin!! :)
