Islands of Singapore: Saint John's-, Lazarus- and Kusu Island

Panorama of Lazarus Island

Those who say Singapore is boring have never discovered its treasures and beauty thoroughly. Hope my post will tempt them to visit these wonderful Islands, only 6.5 km from South Singapore!

Let's get ready! One ferry, three island, three completely different experience and only S$18! You definitely can not miss it! :)

Starting point:  Marina South Pier Ferry terminal (MRT North-South Line, exit B)
For ferry schedules:  visit their site! The operating times are longer on Sundays (the last ferry goes back to the city around 6 pm) but it's still worth to start early, around 11 am.

Way to the ferry

View from the ferry
The ferry we traveled had an AC room and a half-open sitting space on the board. But if the crowd is bigger than expected try to sit to the "top" or to the sides to enjoy an unlimited view.

Enjoying the nice sea view :)
You will need:

  • -sunscreen!!! Never underestimate the power of the sun, else you will end like me with a new roasted duck look lol!
  • -drinking water and food (no restaurants on these islands)
  • -some food for the cats as well at Saint John's :)
  • -swimwear: they say the water is clean(er) than at the city side
  • -camera for photo memories :)

St. John's Island is famous for its furry inhabitants, so if you are crazy about cats, that is the perfect place for you!

You can rent a holiday bungalow or camp to stay overnight as well, or just enjoy a nice picnic near the beach, the sun and the lovely company of cats!

Enjoy a nice picnic under the shady palm trees.

Sandy beach at St.John's Island

This island is the gateway to the lesser known Lazarus Island, a place which I simply call as the Singaporean Maldives, with an incredibly beautiful beach and almost crystal clear water!

For "special needs", private charters are also available to the Islands.

Fishermen at Lazarus Island

Just ask the fisherman to give you his trophy for a special pose :P

The third Island called Kusu (turtle) Island has a little more to offer than just a sandy beach. The Da Bogong Temple provides a spiritual journey on this Island, not to mention the cute tortoises and the nice view for the Singapore Skyline!
