Mid-Autumn Festival Singapore

According to the Chinese lunar calendar, Mid-Autumn Festival is celebrated every year on the 15th day of the eighth month.

In 2015, it falls on 27th September but the celebrations start much earlier with several events around the town.

If you are just heading towards the Lion city, it's not late yet to get a glimpse of the most colorful and important festival of the year.
The good news is, that the street light-up can be seen until 12 October!! Don't miss the night stage shows either at Kreta Ayer Square, every evening from 8 pm, until 27 September!

Significance of the Mid-Autumn Festival:

However, it is originally a harvest festival, worship of the moon is an important part of the celebration. Thus, there are many tales and legends attached to this event. The most popular among them is the story of Chang E "who in order to protect her beloved husband’s elixir, ate it herself and flew to the moon". The another one has a historical background which says, during the Yuan dynasty Chinese people wanted to defeat Mongols, so used mooncakes as a "mediator" to hide messages inside, because they believed Mongols don't eat moon cakes.
They definitely didn't know what they had missed! I'm completely obsessed with these delicious cookies!

*Alternative names: Lantern Festival, Moon Festival, or Reunion Festival

Irresistible mooncakes!!

This festival, like any in Singapore, is just as colorful as it's possible to be. Love the lantern displays, the flower decorations on the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple, and this year the Gardens by the Bay have also dressed into festive mood.

Join the Mass Lantern Walk on 27 September in Chinatown at the Kreta Ayer Square, and grab your lanterns which will be painted on the spot and you just have to assemble it!

If it was not enough of the colors and lights, take a walk to the outdoor Gardens!
The Gardens by the Bay's lantern display for the Mid-Autumn festival was stunning!! We have seen some similar figures during the River Hong Bao earlier this year, but it was not boring at all!
I'm sure they won't fail to deliver something new and exciting this year either, so if you want to plan in advance, check their site for updates.
