"The World's largest chain of modern Thai Restaurants"
We are regular customers of this restaurant chain, tho earlier I had a fear that I would not be able to find anything without sea food on the menu. I totally avoid sea food because of the horrible smell generally comes from restaurants dealing with fish.
The taste is a combination of sweet, sour, salty and spicy tastes in each Thai dishes. Flavors which I can identify are the coconut milk, ginger, coriander root, red and green chilli, lemongrass and basil leaves.
It is said that the main character of the Thai dishes given by the different fish sauces. They like to use some sauces of Chinese origin like black soy sauce, oyster sauce etc.
I remember, once we asked the waiter not to put "fish oil" on the top of the food we ordered, when she was looking at us with a grumpy face and said "We do not use fish oil in our dishes!" :D Ya, probably our terminology was wrong, but the fact is, they use some aromatic sauce which may give it an odd smell too, so it's not always pleasant for those who don't prefer or got used to it.
So my order generally sounds like: "Can I get one Phat Thai chicken without sea food please?!" Just to make sure they will not put any fishy into my dish!
Phat Thai with chicken |
Luckily their menu is full of other delights, so no need to worry too much about it. Indian cuisine also influences Thai kitchen regarding their curries I have tried here.
Here are some yummy choices of the menu:
This dish above is the "Kway Teow Lod" which is made of a special noodle rolls with minced chicken and mushroom. My favorite is the mango smoothy at the background, similar to a thick indian mango lassi.
"Tender juicy chicken in Jade green curry" |
The dominant flavour of the green curry is given by the coconut milk, coriander root and lemongrass with the green chilli spiciness. They add potato and eggplant too, served along Thai fragrant rice. It is better to know, that the chicken is boiled before they put into the curry. Some people find its consistence and taste odd, because of the neutral chicken taste and they think it's not cooked properly. But this is perfectly fine, only the preparation differs from what we generally apply when preparing curries.
"Rice with yellow ginger chicken" |
The spiciest dish on the menu I guess. Waiters generally warn you to chose carefully, because it is a HOT dish indeed! Made with lot of ginger and red chilli!
My favourite locations:
- Parkway Parade
- Vivo city
